Below are the procedures we're asked about most. Each links to a full page with techniques, recovery timelines and pricing — but if you're not sure which is right for you, that's exactly what a consultation is for.
Travelling abroad for surgery sounds daunting until you see how routine the process has become. It usually begins with a message — you send photos and a description of what's bothering you, and the surgical team reviews them and comes back with an initial opinion and a personalised quote, normally within a day. If you decide to go ahead, a date is set and the practical side is arranged around it: the hospital, a comfortable hotel for your recovery, and transfers to and from the airport and clinic.
When you arrive, you'll have a face-to-face consultation with your surgeon before anything is finalised — this is your chance to talk through the plan, ask every question, and make sure you and the surgeon share the same picture of the outcome. The surgery follows, then a hospital stay appropriate to the operation, and a period of recovery at your hotel with the team checking in on you. Before you fly home, your surgeon confirms you're fit to travel. What matters just as much as any of this is what happens afterwards: a clinic worth trusting stays in contact once you're home, guiding your recovery remotely and being there if a question or concern comes up. Support that ends the moment you reach the airport isn't really support at all.
If you take one thing from this page, let it be this: in a market as big as Turkey's, the outcome depends far more on who you choose than on where you go. There are highly qualified surgeons and accredited hospitals here, and there are also operators competing purely on price who cut the things you can't see from a website. The difference between a wonderful result and a regrettable one is almost always the choice of surgeon and clinic, not the country.
So do the homework that protects you. Check that your surgeon is properly board-certified and that the hospital is accredited. Ask for an itemised quote, and a written revision policy, so you know where you stand if something needs adjusting. Be honest with yourself about expectations — good surgery makes you look like a rested, refreshed version of yourself, not like a different person, and any surgeon promising perfection is overselling. And bear in mind that some operations carry more risk than others: procedures like BBL, tummy tucks and full body lifts are more demanding, and a responsible surgeon will assess your health carefully before agreeing to combine several of them in one sitting. A surgeon who occasionally says "no, that's not safe for you" is showing you exactly the judgement you want.
Our plastic and aesthetic surgery information is reviewed by Op. Dr. İsmail Gökhan Bacak, a specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Having an experienced surgeon check what we publish is part of how we try to keep this honest — it's easy to write appealing marketing copy about cosmetic surgery, and much harder, and more valuable, to make sure it's medically accurate and realistic about what surgery can and can't do.
The short answer everyone knows is price — surgery here typically costs 45 to 70 percent less than in the UK, and often even less compared to the United States. But if it were only about being cheap, Turkey wouldn't have become the destination it is; plenty of countries are inexpensive. What sets Turkey apart is the combination of low cost with genuinely high volume and experience. Turkish plastic surgeons operate constantly, many of them trained at respected universities and having done fellowships in Europe or North America, and many larger hospitals hold international accreditation. When a surgeon performs a particular operation hundreds of times a year, that repetition shows in the results.
The price itself isn't a trick. It comes down to economics — lower salaries, lower rent, lower malpractice insurance, and a favourable exchange rate — not to cutting corners on your safety at a reputable clinic. A good surgeon in Istanbul or Antalya uses the same implants, the same equipment, and the same techniques as one in London or Los Angeles; the difference is that far less of your money disappears into overheads. The other thing patients quickly appreciate is how much is handled for them. Most treatments here are arranged as all-inclusive packages: the surgery, the hospital stay, a recovery hotel, airport and clinic transfers, a translator, and aftercare are all organised as one, so you're not stitching together a medical trip from scratch in a foreign country.
Costs vary a lot depending on the procedure, the technique, and your individual case, so any single number is misleading — a straightforward eyelid lift and a full mommy makeover live in completely different price worlds. One honest word on the numbers, though: be suspicious of quotes that seem dramatically lower than everyone else's. The sensible way to read a quote is to ask what's included and what isn't, and to treat an unusually cheap headline figure as a reason to ask more questions, not fewer.
Both cities are excellent, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you want from the trip. Istanbul is the larger hub, with the widest choice of clinics and surgeons across every price point, and the energy of a huge city around you. Antalya offers the same standard of accredited care but wrapped in a calmer, coastal setting — a lot of patients find recovering within sight of the Mediterranean does something good for the spirit as well as the body. Neither is "better"; they simply suit different people. If you're unsure, tell us what you're picturing and we'll help you weigh it up.
Typically 45–70% versus UK private prices, and often more against the US — even after flights and a hotel, because Turkish prices are usually all-inclusive. The bigger the procedure, the larger the saving in absolute terms. Our separate cost calculator lets you estimate your own plan.
It can be, and for most patients at reputable clinics it is — but "in Turkey" is too broad a question. Safety comes down to the specific surgeon and hospital you choose. Insist on a board-certified surgeon, an accredited hospital, a clear written quote and revision policy, and never decide on price alone.
Often, yes — combinations like a mommy makeover are common and can be more cost-effective and convenient than separate trips. But time under anaesthesia and your overall health set real limits, so a careful surgeon decides what's safe to combine rather than simply agreeing to everything at once.
It varies by procedure — roughly five to seven days for a rhinoplasty or breast surgery, seven to ten for a tummy tuck or BBL, and ten to fourteen for a facelift or mommy makeover. Your surgeon confirms you're fit to fly before you head home.
A good clinic keeps supporting you remotely — checking your healing, answering questions, and having a plan if a concern arises. Ask any clinic exactly what aftercare they provide once you've left the country; the answer tells you a lot about how they'll treat you.
